Oily Scalp Support!
Your New Scalp Journey Begins!

Firstly, we would like to say that if you're struggling with an oily scalp, please know that excess oil is a symptom, not the root cause! You are not alone and 1000's of clients have attended with oily scalp problems. We want to help you get your confidence back by supporting you to find a solution!

Many people spend years washing their hair more frequently or trying different shampoos without ever addressing "why" their scalp is producing excess sebum.

The goal isn't to completely remove your scalp's natural oils your scalp needs these to protect your skin and hair. Instead, we want to restore balance to your scalp's microbiome, reduce inflammation, remove excess build up and help regulate sebum production naturally.

Firstly, What causes an oily scalp?

There isn't one single cause. Some of the most common include:

• An imbalanced scalp microbiome (the healthy bacteria and microorganisms that protect your scalp)

• Silicone and heavy product build-up blocking the scalp

• Sulphate rich shampoos stripping the scalp, causing it to overproduce oil

• Washing too frequently or not cleansing effectively

• Hormonal changes

• High stress and raised cortisol levels

• Diet, gut health and nutritional deficiencies

• Hard water and mineral deposits

• Sweat and environmental pollution

• Certain medications or underlying health conditions

Unless the underlying cause is addressed, oily hair often continues to return.

LET'S START WITH A NEW OILY SCALP ROUTINE!

Step 1: Reset your products

This is the most important step.

Switch to a high-quality sulphate free, Paraben free and silicone free shampoo, designed to support scalp health rather than simply stripping away oil, we recommend Faith In Nature.

Silicones coat the hair and scalp, making hair initially feel soft, but over time they can contribute to build up that traps sebum, dead skin cells and impurities. Harsh sulphates can have the opposite effect by over drying the scalp, often triggering even more oil production.

Your home care products should work with your scalp, not against it.

Step 2: Follow a consistent scalp routine

Every wash day

• Double shampoo every cleanse. (First shampoo on dry hair)

The first cleanse removes surface oil, sweat and product build up, the second cleanse properly cleanses the scalp.

• Massage your shampoo into the scalp for 2–3 minutes using your fingertips or a scalp massage brush, not your nails! This will improve circulation and lift debris.

• Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

• Apply conditioner only through the mid lengths and ends of your hair, never directly onto the scalp.

Step 3: Once per week

•Use a gentle scalp exfoliator to help remove excess sebum, dead skin cells and surface build-up.

We would also advise using our Santavia Naturals Grease Peace Scalp Oil to support the overproduction and balance natural oils.

• Wash hair brushes and combs with warm soapy water.

• Change your pillowcase regularly, ideally every 2–3 days if your scalp becomes oily quickly.

☆ Lifestyle habits

• Stay well hydrated.

• Eat a balanced diet rich in omega 3 fats, zinc, iron and B vitamins.

• Manage stress where possible, as elevated cortisol can influence oil production.

• Avoid touching your scalp throughout the day, as this transfers oils and bacteria.

☆ Professional scalp treatments:

Home care is essential, but even the best products cannot always remove months or years of compacted sebum, oxidation, dead skin cells, mineral deposits and product build up.

Professional Head Spa treatments use specialised scalp analysis, deep cleansing techniques and targeted scalp therapy to thoroughly cleanse the scalp, restore a healthier environment and support the scalp's natural barrier and microbiome. Think of it as giving your scalp a fresh start before maintaining the results at home.

DO Remember...

Consistency is everything!

Your scalp didn't become imbalanced overnight, and it won't rebalance overnight either.

Most clients begin noticing improvements within 4–8 weeks of following a consistent routine, but lasting results come from maintaining healthy scalp habits rather than searching for a quick fix.

A healthy scalp creates the ideal environment for healthier, stronger, shinier hair and that's always our goal!

REMEMBER....

Healthy hair begins with a healthy scalp!
